As a romantic gesture it's difficult to beat. As I'm yet to receive one I can not say this from personal experience, just a longing for it to happen some day. The fantasy is this; a romantic picnic by the river on a warm summer's day. The wicker champagne basket is presented, complete with champagne, luxury hand made Belgian chocolates, strawberries, napkins made from the finest Egyptian cotton and two champagne flutes. Perhaps there is a string quartet, perhaps a proposal of marriage – well to late for the last part anyway. Not that I’ve thought about this in any sort of detail, but you must admit, they do make the usual bunch of roses look a tough passé.
Some people even use champagne baskets as a memento for wedding guests. Now that may prove a little too expensive for most people when budgeting a wedding, but if you want them to remember the day, you could really push the boat out and throw in some smoked salmon, pate, caviar or chocolate truffles. After all, they did get you that toaster.
There are retailers that selling a range of picnic baskets, which also include a variety of champagne baskets, and they can be bought online. Many will offer next day delivery, for a slightly increased cost, this is handy if you remember someone's birthday, or anniversary, at the last minute. It will appear as if you've given their special occasion a lot of thought! You can also get luxury versions with leather hinges and brass fittings, if you want a more sophisticated look, and the champagne bottles come in varnished wooden boxes. They can also put a message in with the gift if you want. The impression you make will be out of proportion to the effort you've put in!
Corporate gifts are all the rage with companies looking to outdo each other. Giving champagne baskets is another way of saying thank you to reliable suppliers or loyal customers. Shareholders will get a warm glow and forget that their share price has plummeted, or maybe not. Even business meetings go better with a drop of fizz.
